Meat Quail for Sale in Maine: Healthy, Homegrown Coturnix

If you’re stocking the freezer or want a steady source of homegrown protein, our Coturnix males keep things simple. They’re raised right here in Maine with the same care as our breeding coveys, just set aside for the table instead of the breeding pen.

They’re hardy, fast-growing, and ready for small-scale processing when you are. Whether you’re new to butchering or just want a reliable meat bird, these quail grow out well, taste great, and stay easy to manage.

Why These Birds Make Good Table Quail

Every bird gets a high-protein diet so they grow out strong and steady. During their first four weeks, they’re fed a 28% protein starter, then transitioned to a 22% grower to build muscle without excess fat. The result? Solid, healthy birds with excellent feed conversion.

Depending on age and weather, we raise them in wire-bottom pens or movable quail tractors. Clean, dry, and with plenty of airflow.

These aren’t cull birds. They’re simply males from quality breeding lines who didn’t make the cut for our rotation. They’re sturdy, well-built birds that finish nicely for the table.

When to Process

Most people process Coturnix quail around 10 weeks old, when the meat-to-bone ratio is ideal. You can process a little earlier for extra tenderness or wait longer for more meat. They don’t tend to ‘toughen up’ like chickens do. It’s really up to you.

We sell all birds live. I don’t process for the public, but if you’re new, I’ll share what’s worked for me and point you to solid starter tools.
