Day-Old Coturnix Quail Chicks for Sale in Maine
This page explains how day-old chicks work here, how hatches are announced, and what to expect if you’re planning to bring chicks home. I hatch in planned batches, and I keep the process simple so you know what’s happening and when.
How My Hatch Process Works
My hatch season runs March through October (give or take).
After hatch, chicks need time to dry off, rest, and perk up. I don’t call final numbers until I’ve checked them over, so availability isn’t instant. Counts come after I’ve assessed them because I’m not going to promise chicks that shouldn’t be leaving.
All chicks are sold straight run (unsexed).
How Availability Is Shared
I will no longer be doing live counts or early reservations. Instead, I’ll be sharing updates at two points in the process.
First, I’ll send an upcoming hatch notification.
When a hatch is approaching, subscribers receive an email letting them know a hatch is coming up, which lines are planned, and when to expect a post-hatch update. That first email is just what’s coming up. I don’t open up availability until after hatch.
Once the hatch is complete, I share availability.
After chicks are fully hatched, dry, and assessed, I send a follow-up email with confirmed availability by line, pricing, and instructions for claiming chicks. These emails will be sent on Thursday evenings following a hatch. When I send the availability email, replies are handled first-come.
Get Notified About Upcoming Hatches
If you’d like to know when a hatch is coming up and what lines are planned, you can join my hatch notification list below.
This list is just for hatch updates. It’s not a guarantee.
Occasional Extra Chicks
Sometimes (though not always) I end a hatch with a small number of chicks still unspoken for after notifications go out. When that happens, I notify a separate short-notice extras list first.
This list is best for people who are local, can respond quickly, and are comfortable with short-notice pickup. Not every hatch has extras, and notifications only go out when extra chicks are available.
Planned Hatch Schedule
Below is my current planned hatch schedule. These dates show when hatches are expected, not guaranteed availability.

Pricing, Deposits & Minimums
Day-old chicks are $4 per chick. Deposits are $1 per chick once you claim your spots. Missed pickup appointments forfeit the deposit. Deposits can be paid digitally by Venmo or CashApp.
The minimum purchase is 6 chicks. If I’m trying to place the last few, I’m more flexible on minimums.
Pickup Timing & Payment
Chick pickup takes place Friday through Sunday only. Exact pickup windows are arranged individually after chicks are claimed and deposits are received.
You can pay with cash, Venmo, or Cash App.
What’s Included
Each pickup includes:
- A secure transport container
- A few days’ worth of feed
- A printed care sheet
Health Check & Care Responsibility
All chicks are inspected prior to pickup to ensure they appear healthy and active at the time they leave.
In the rare event that a chick is dead on arrival (DOA), it must be reported within 24 hours of pickup to be eligible for refund or replacement. Past 24 hours, I can’t offer refunds or replacements.
