Started Coturnix Quail for Sale in Maine

Want to skip the brooder but still raise your quail from a young age? Started quail are the in-between stage. Past the fragile chick phase but still young enough to adjust easily once they’re home. These birds are fully feathered, off heat, and figuring things out fast. They’re hardy, healthy, and already eating and drinking on their own. If you’re not ready for the extra work that comes with brooding chicks, started birds are a nice middle ground.

That said, I usually encourage new keepers to start with day-old chicks if they can. It’s the best way to bond with your birds, learn their needs from the start, and really get a feel for raising quail start to finish.

Age & Pricing

Started quail are sold by age group and are always straight run (unsexed).

  • 20–26 Days Old: $7 each
  • 27–42 Days Old: $8 each

Once they’re about three weeks old and nights stay above 50°F, they don’t need heat anymore, but they still need a dry, sheltered spot out of the wind (and away from hungry critters).

Why Choose Started Birds

Here’s why some customers like started quail:

  • No brooder setup required
  • Birds are hardier and more independent
  • Easier transition into outdoor housing
  • Great for beginners nervous about heat plates or early care
  • Still young enough to get used to your daily routine and handling
